PRACTICE AREAS
CRIMINAL DEFENSE
The criminal “justice” system rarely feels like justice. Whether a client is facing a minor ordinance violation or a serious felony charge, Timmerman Law is unflinching in its representation and holistic in its advocacy. This firm assists clients in understanding the criminal court process, empowers clients to make informed decisions about their cases, and leaves no stone unturned (including taking a case to trial) in pursuit of achieving the best solutions for clients.
CIVIL RIGHTS
Sometimes the government tramples on the constitutional rights of its citizens. These rights include the freedom of religion, speech and the press, the right to assemble and petition the government, keep and bear arms, and be free from unreasonable search and seizure, the right to equal protection and due process, the right to a speedy trial, legal counsel, and to confront accusers, and freedom from excessive bail, stiff fines, and cruel and unusual punishment. When a violation of a constitutional right occurs, Timmerman Law is here to hold the government accountable.
Mark Timmerman (he/him)
Owner & Attorney
Mark is an attorney and owner of Timmerman Law LLC. Before founding the firm, Mark was an education and employment law attorney at a St. Louis-based law firm representing educational institutions such as K-12 schools and colleges and universities, a public defender in St. Louis County representing people accused of state crimes, and a criminal defense and civil rights attorney at a small law firm in Clayton, Missouri vindicating constitutional rights in federal court and defending people accused of federal crimes.
Mark moved to St. Louis two days before Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson, Missouri. The subsequent protests and community’s calls for justice shaped his career path and impassioned him to practice law in the areas of criminal defense and civil rights. In 2015, Mark assisted the Ferguson Commission with creating its Final Report – an in-depth study of the underlying social, political, historic, economic, education, and racial issues brought to light by the events in Ferguson. The Final Report included 189 policy calls to action aimed at increasing justice and fairness in Ferguson and beyond.
After growing up in West Lafayette, Indiana, Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2014 and received his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2017.
Besides representing clients in court, Mark writes and speaks on issues of social justice, pro bono legal work, and engaging in productive discourse. He has been an adjunct professor at Saint Louis University School of Law teaching Legal Analysis, Research and Communication. He is a board member of Young Friends of Forest Park Forever. Mark also enjoys playing violin, singing, running outside in the immense St. Louis summer heat, traveling, painting, and visiting antique stores and coffee shops. Most of all, Mark loves spending time at home with his family.
